Idaho State Police personnel are investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed two people Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene.

A woman, 73, and a man, 76, both from Hayden, died as a result of injuries sustained from the collision that occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Appleway Avenue just west of Ramsey Road. Their names have not been released by police.

ISP reports that a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by the 76-year-old man and heading westbound on Appleway, reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of Appleway and Ramsey.

The Corvette sideswiped a Chevrolet HHR that was stopped behind a Kenworth semi-trailer, and then struck the rear of the semi-trailer that was full of gasoline and waiting to turn left into a 76 gas station.

The female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash. The male driver was transported via ground ambulance to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The next of kin have been notified.

Westbound traffic on Appleway Avenue was blocked for more than two hours.
