COEUR d’ALENE - A Dalton Gardens man died Thursday from injuries sustained when the motorcycle he was driving crashed around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Fourth Street and Honeysuckle Avenue in Hayden.
Sheldon Phelan, 29, was driving the motorcycle at the time of the collision that involved no other vehicles or victims, reported the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
“Moments before the crash, the same motorcycle was reported in the area to be driving erratically at high rates of speed,” said a sheriff’s office press release.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to the scene and handled the investigation. Fourth Street from Prairie Avenue to Honeysuckle Avenue was closed for a few hours during the investigation.
The cause of the crash is believed to be speed related, according to the sheriff’s office.
Northern Lakes Fire and Coeur d’Alene Fire also responded.
“As warm weather hits our area, more motorcyclists are taking advantage of it,” said the release. “The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to ride responsibly.”
