SPIRIT LAKE — It was a day for pitching, outside of that one swing.
Junior Logan Walsh hit a a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Timberlake, which held off the St. Maries Lumberjacks 2-0 in a nonleague game on Wednesday at Timberlake High.
“It was a pitcher’s duel for sure,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “Acacia (Pecor) threw really well for us and our defense played really well behind her.”
Both Pecor and St. Maries senior Taci Watkins struck out 10.
“Seeing a pitcher like Taci is super helpful for us,” Lupinacci said. “We tried to stack our schedule and got to play most of the 4A and 5A schools around here. In the past, we haven’t been ready for the kind of speed Taci can throw with at our level, and hopefully this gets us ready. Seeing her this close to districts just helps that much more.”
Timberlake (13-7) opens the best-of-3 3A District 1 championship series at home against Bonners Ferry on Monday.
St. Maries (16-4) travels to Genesee to conclude the regular season on Friday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Seniors Cooper Lenz and Raj Olivieri drove in three runs each for the Tigers in a nonleague win over the Lumberjacks.
Lenz, Grant Allaway, Parker Holly and Jesse O’Connor scored two runs each for Timberlake (10-11), which opens the best-of-3 game 3A District 1 championship series on Monday in Bonners Ferry.
“Took us a couple of innings to get rolling,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “It was senior night and took us a while to settle down and we were able to get the bats going in the third inning.
