NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals move into first in East Region with sweep

COEUR d’ALENE — Summer Makinster, Emily Schulhauser and Kennedy Hobson each homered in the nightcap for North Idaho College, which swept a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Walla Walla 3-0 and 11-0 at Memorial Field on Thursday.

With the sweep, NIC (32-9, 24-4 NWAC) moved in front of Walla Walla (31-9, 21-5) for the lead in the conference.

Hobson struck out five in the opener for NIC, which took the lead on an RBI single by Makinster in the first inning to score Hayden Rockwell. Kani Korok hit a solo home run leading off the fifth in the opener for NIC.

Abbey Brooks struck out three in the second game for NIC, which hosts Spokane in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Walla Walla is scheduled to play Spokane today at Spokane Falls in a doubleheader.
