PREP BASEBALL: 5A regional title game rained out; they'll try again today

COEUR d'ALENE — Rain was scattered throughout the region, and in some places, it accumulated quickly.
One of those places was Lake City High, site of Tuesday's 5A Region 1 championship game between the top-seeded Timberwolves and the third-seeded Lewiston Bengals.
But the numerous puddles from the late-afternoon rain shower were just too much, and officials ruled it a rainout right around the time the game was scheduled to start, at 4 p.m.
The title game was rescheduled for today at 4 at Lake City.

COEUR d’ALENE — Survive and advance.
That’s the goal at this point, and the outcome for second-seeded Coeur d’Alene on a rainy day against fourth-seeded Post Falls.
Cooper Erickson singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Saunders in the bottom of the sixth inning, pushing the Vikings past the Trojans in a loser-out game in the 5A Region 1 tournament at Ted Page Field.
“It was great for us to bounce back,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns, in his fourth season as coach. “We played maybe our worst game of the year and with the rain and it being a close game, you really don’t know how it’s going to go.”
Coeur d’Alene senior Bryce Stockton struck out five in six innings. Logan Markowski struck out two to get the save in the seventh.
“Our pitchers were able to execute and take deep breaths and just get the job done. It was a well played game all around. Hats off to Post Falls. They really gave us everything that we could handle today.”
Coeur d’Alene (15-11) will face the loser of today’s regional championship game between Lewiston and Lake City in the second-place game on Thursday. The regional championship game was rained out at Lake City and is scheduled to be played today at 4 p.m.
Erickson gave Coeur d’Alene a 1-0 lead on an RBI single to score Andrew Karns in the first inning. Post Falls tied the game on an RBI groundout by Austin DeBoer to score Lucas Smith in the third.
"We absolutely battled, but just couldn’t get the hits with runners in scoring position,” said second-year Post Falls coach Kurt Reese, whose team left eight runners on base. “But it’s hard to be mad. Between yesterday and today, the kids were dialed in. We just couldn’t find that hit at the right moment.”

OROFINO — The third-seeded Lumberjacks (7-14) fell to the second-seeded Bulldogs (11-13) in a semifinal game in the 2A District 1-2 tournament.
Further information was not available.
St. Maries will face the loser of today's semifinal between Kellogg and Orofino in a loser-out game at 12:30 p.m.
Grangeville advances to the championship game at 4 p.m. against the winner of the early game.
The top two teams from the tournament advance to state starting next Thursday at Orofino.

OROFINO — The Wildcats (9-14) beat the Spartans (0-17) in a loser-out game in the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Orofino High.
Kellogg was scheduled to face Orofino in the late game on Tuesday, but the game was moved to today at 10 a.m. after rain delayed the start of the tournament by three hours. The championship game is still scheduled for today at 4 p.m., with the second-place game at 6:30.
