COLUMBIA BASIN — Six of the seven local boys soccer teams entered this week still alive in their respective district tournaments. See below for an update on the results of tournaments, including Quincy and Wahluke already heading on to the 1A state tournament. All scores and records are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Ephrata

The Tigers earned the final spot in the Central Washington Athletic Conference tournament but fell to Grandview 4-0 on the road on May 1. In the consolation bracket, Ephrata fell 2-0 to Selah to end its season with a 5-13 mark.

Moses Lake

The Mavericks, the No. 6 seed in the Columbia Basin Big-Nine tournament, fell 6-0 to No. 3 Davis in the first round of the CBBN tournament on Tuesday. Moses Lake finished its season with a 5-11 overall record.

Othello

The Huskies, who entered the CWAC tournament as the No. 2 seed, fell to East Valley (Yakima) 2-1 in the district final on Tuesday and will play in the 2A District 5/6/8 Crossover round against Pullman at home on Friday at 5 p.m. To reach the CWAC final, Othello (12-5-1) defeated Grandview 3-2 in PKs on May 3.

Quincy

Quincy advanced to the 1A District 6 finals with a 4-1 win over Bridgeport on Wednesday, setting up a contest between the Jacks and Cascade (Leavenworth). Quincy (15-1) won both games against the Kodiaks with 3-1 and 1-0 scores, though both teams automatically qualified for the state tournament by reaching the District 6 final.

Royal

The Knights finished the regular season with an 11-4 record and the No. 2 seed out of the South Central Athletic Conference (East), but fell to Toppenish 2-0 in the first round of the district tournament. Royal responded with a 3-0 win over Mabton in the first round of the consolation bracket, setting up a home match against Wapato on Thursday. Scores were not available at press time. The winner advances to the consolation final and the loser is out of the tournament.

Wahluke

Since the two teams that advance to the SCAC final automatically qualify for state, the Warriors are heading to the 1A state tournament for the fifth-straight season that a tournament is held. Wahluke’s first-round match against La Salle was canceled, and the Warriors returned to the field on Tuesday in a 5-0 win against Wapato. Wahluke (13-3-3) plays Highland in Saturday’s SCAC final at Royal High School.

COULEE CITY — Trailing by four entering the fourth quarter, the Almira/Coulee-Hartline girls basketball team was unable to overcome its deficit to Valley Christian on Tuesday night, falling 50-46 to the visiting Panthers. “We knew it was going to be a tough game,” Head Coach Nikki Strock said. “We go into every game thinking that – we've got to be tough, we’ve got to work to execute the things that we’ve been practicing.” It was the second matchup between both teams this season, with ACH winning the previous game 70-43 on Dec. 20. Tuesday’s game was much closer to start, as ACH held a narrow 15-14 lead early in the second quarter. By the end of the second quarter, Valley Christian had taken a 20-19 lead over the Warriors.
