COLUMBIA BASIN – Local baseball and softball teams are in the full swing of district tournaments, aiming to reach their respective state and regional tournaments. See below for an update on how teams have fared. All scores and record are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline

Baseball

The Warriors finished the regular season with a 15-0 record, clinching a spot in the semifinals of the 1B District 7/9 tournament on Saturday. ACH will match up against DeSales, which finished in second place of the Southeast 1B league with a 17-3 overall record. All four teams in the 1B District 7/9 semifinals automatically qualify for the 1B state tournament.

Softball

ACH clinched a spot in the 1B District 6/7/9 regionals after taking third place in the District 6/7 tournament with a 4-2 win over Northport, putting the Warriors two wins from state. The Warriors open the regional round with a matchup against the No. 2 seed out of the Southeast 1B league.

Ephrata

Baseball

The Tigers earned their spot in the Central Washington Athletic Conference after sweeping Prosser in the final doubleheader of the regular season with scores of 5-3 and 19-12. Ephrata fell to Othello 11-1 in the first round, but rallied with a 15-3 win over East Valley (Yakima) to advance to the consolation finals against Grandview. The Tigers lost 3-0 to the Grandview Greyhounds to end their season.

Softball

Ephrata finished the regular season last week with 13-3 and 16-0 wins over Prosser in a doubleheader, entering the CWAC tournament with a 15-4 record and the No. 2 seed. After a first-round bye, the Tigers host the winner of Thursday night’s matchup between Ellensburg and East Valley (Yakima) on Saturday.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague

Baseball

The Broncos finished their season with a 4-3 loss to Kettle Falls in the Northeast 2B tournament on May 4, concluding the 2023 campaign.

Softball

LRS finished the regular season with an 11-10 overall record, checking in as the No. 5 seed in the Northeast 2B tournament where they will face off against No. 4 Liberty (Spangle) on Tuesday. The Broncos split the regular season against Liberty, winning 3-2 and losing 9-2 in an April 11 doubleheader.

Moses Lake

Baseball

Moses Lake finished second in the Columbia Basin Big-Nine standings in the regular season, setting up a road matchup against West Valley (Yakima) with a berth to state on the line. The 15-6 Mavs were swept by the Rams last week with scores of 8-0, 7-0 and 5-1.

Softball

The CBBN tournament doesn’t begin until May 20, but the Mavs take an undefeated record in league contests into a doubleheader against Eastmont on Friday. The Wildcats and Mavericks are both 10-0 in CBBN play and are fighting for the right to host the CBBN district championship game on May 20.

MLCA/CCS

Baseball

The Lions earned the No. 3 seed in this week’s Central Washington 1B tournament, going up against No. 2 Waterville-Mansfield. MLCA/CCS fell 8-5 to the Shockers, ending its season with a 4-8 mark.

Othello

Baseball

Othello knocked off Ephrata 11-1 in the first round of the CWAC tournament on May 4, but fell 5-3 in the second round to No. 2 Ellensburg. Still with a chance to advance to the 2A District 5/6/8 Crossover, the Huskies fell to Grandview 7-1 in a loser-out game to end their season with a 15-8 record.

Softball

The Huskies finished the regular season on top of the CWAC with a 16-4 overall record, including an 11-1 record in league play. Othello, the No. 1 seed in this week’s CWAC tournament, hosts the winner of Thursday’s game between Selah and Prosser on Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner of the CWAC tournament automatically qualifies for state.

Quincy

Baseball

Quincy defeated Omak 5-3 in the first round of the Caribou Trail League tournament on Saturday, advancing to face Chelan with a chance to advance to the 1A District 6/7 Crossover. A Chelan score in the bottom of the seventh gave the Mountain Goats an 8-7 win, ending Quincy’s season with a 7-10 record.

Softball

The Jackrabbits closed out the regular season on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader against Cascade (Leavenworth) but scores were not available in time for press deadline. Quincy, who is 13-5 overall and 7-3 in league ahead of Thursday’s games, enters the postseason on May 20 for the CTL tournament.

Royal

Baseball

The Knights clinched the final spot out of the East in this week’s South Central Athletic Conference tournament but fell 18-0 to No. 1 seed Naches Valley. Royal travels to No. 3 Zillah for a loser-out game in the first round of the consolation bracket on Friday at 4 p.m.

Softball

The 17-1 Knights defeated Eastmont 1-0 on Tuesday, but that’s not the end of their non-league schedule. Royal will travel to Moses Lake on Monday to face off against the Mavericks in a non-league matchup to end the regular season. Royal and Kiona-Benton City are both 6-0 in league contests, and Saturday’s doubleheader between the two schools will determine who takes the No. 1 seed out of the South Central Athletic Conference (East) in next week’s tournament.

Wahluke

Softball

Wahluke closes out its regular season with a doubleheader against Connell on Friday, which will determine seeding for next week’s SCAC tournament. The Warriors are 7-12 overall, but haven’t won a league game. Connell also has yet to win a league contest.

Warden

Baseball

The Cougars took down Cle Elum-Roslyn 7-3 on Monday in the first round of the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference tournament, advancing to a second-round matchup against Tri-Cities Prep on Thursday. Scores were not available in time for press deadline, but the winner automatically qualifies for the 2B state tournament and the loser moves to the consolation semifinals.

Softball

Warden finished its regular season with a 17-4 record and a No. 1 seed in next week’s EWAC tournament. The Cougars, who finished with an 8-0 record in league games, host White Swan on Tuesday for the first round of the tournament.
