Sandpoint tops Pocatello, 17-5 in first round of state championship

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. SANDPOINT – Sandpoint defeated Pocatello in the first round of the IHSLL state championship, 17-5, at War Memorial Field on Friday.
After the first quarter of play, Sandpoint led just 3-2 over the Bandits, but the game would not remain close for long.
Led by Gabriel Linck, who scored two goals in the second quarter and four on the game, the Bulldogs built a 10-5 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Sandpoint blanked Pocatello and scored seven unanswered goals to cruise to a 17-5 victory. Blayne Kanning, Maksym Page, and Linck combined for 10 out of the Bulldogs 17 goals. 10 different Bulldogs scored in the contest.
The Bulldogs will face Jackson Hole in the state semifinals at War Memorial Field on Saturday at 9 a.m. If they were to advance to the state championship game will be played at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
