COEUR d'ALENE — A Spokane Valley man was arrested in connection to a crash that killed a Coeur d'Alene man Sunday.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's office, Mark Bruzas was arrested after field sobriety testing "determined he was intoxicated at the time of the collision."
Bruzas was booked into the jail on one count of felony vehicular homicide, a KCSO press release said.
The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Fernan Lake Road about a mile east of the Fernan Rod and Gun Club.
The release said witnesses reported a head-on collision between two vehicles.
The initial investigation showed the driver of a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, Donald Phelan, 83, Coeur d’Alene, was eastbound when he collided with a 2016 Ford F-150 driven by Bruzas.
Phelan and his vehicle rolled about 400 feet down a ravine, and he died at the scene.
"Bruzas showed signs and symptoms of being under the influence," the release said.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the KCSO at kcsotraffic@kcgov.us.
This is the fourth fatal crash the KCSO Traffic Unit has investigated over the course of two months, the release said.
