Masquers season finale opens June 2

SOAP LAKE — A pair of comedy shorts on wages of deceit will be the season finale for the Masquers Theater troupe for 2022-23. “White Liars” and “The Black Comedy” open June 2 at the theater, 322 E. Main Ave., Soap Lake.
The shows will be on stage for three consecutive weekends. Tickets can be purchased online at the Masquers website, www.masquers.com.
“White Liars” follows the chain of events when Sophie (Victoria Drake in the Masquers production), a fortune teller and (at least in her mind) Baroness of the Holy Roman Empire, gets an offer that involves a few - not many, just a few - lies. See, Tom (Gaige Anderson), likes a girl and he’s lead in a rock band, so he’s got that going for him. There is one problem, however. The girl already has a boyfriend, Tom’s manager Frank (Noah Carlile).
Frank hires Sophie to convince Tom it wouldn’t be a good idea to pursue the girl, and alas, things spiral rapidly out of control.
“The Black Comedy” tells the tale of aspiring sculptor Brindsley Miller (Miles Plagerman) and his fiancee Carol Melkett (Cecily Hendricks). They need something to spiff up their apartment for a buyer (Bob Jasmin) who’s coming to look at Brindsley’s work, but they don’t have any money.
However, they do have a neighbor with an apartment full of nice stuff. And conveniently that neighbor (Justice Duran) is out of town. So what would be the harm in, um, borrowing, some of the nice stuff, just for a few hours? What could possibly go wrong, except an electrical outage and the neighbor’s unexpected return?
Jesse Huntwork is the director of the Masquers production.
