COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly shot someone twice outside a bar.

Cory A. Hippenstiel, 42, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

Witnesses told police that Hippenstiel and another man got into a heated argument Monday night at the Corner Bar on Fourth Street. The pair reportedly went outside, where they continued to argue and push each other.

Security footage reportedly showed Hippenstiel retrieve a handgun from his truck and point the weapon at the other man, then tuck it into his pants.

As the argument continued, police said Hippenstiel hit the other man in the head with the gun, then shot him twice. Bullets struck the other man in the arm and the lower abdominal area.

After the shooting, Hippenstiel put the gun back in his truck and waited for police to arrive, according to court documents.

People on scene provided first aid to the injured man before medical personnel arrived and transported him to Kootenai Health.

Hippenstiel remains in the Kootenai County jail.
