A school bus can hold 71 elementary students

At an average of 60 pounds per little learner, that's just north of 2 tons at 4,260 pounds.

Kindergarten through fifth graders in the Post Falls School District are aiming to go even bigger than that for this year's Stuff the Bus Food Drive.

Students are hoping to collect at least 4,800 pounds of food this week as they work to help community members in need with canned meals, vegetables and fruit, breakfast bars, cereal, snack bars, diapers and canned soups.

This is the 16th year for the food drive, which launched Tuesday and runs through Monday.

Non-perishable food donations may be dropped off at any Post Falls elementary school — Prairie View, Greensferry, West Ridge, Ponderosa, Mullan Trail, Seltice and Treaty Rock. All school collections and deliveries to the Post Falls Food Bank will be conducted by the Post Falls Kiwanis Club.
