Laura Elizabeth McNicol, 93

Laura McNicol passed peacefully at her family home in Hayden, Idaho, on Aug. 27, 2023. Laura was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Jan. 31, 1930. She was the third of five children born to Paul Harold Holsinger and Elsie Adelaide Holsinger nee Dingley. She is survived by her five children: Donald William Ullrich, Jr., of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; Jonathan David Ullrich of Hayden, Idaho; Elsi Beth Sullivan of Kennesaw, Ga.; Reginald Thomas Ullrich of Tustin, Calif.; and Madra Alyce Ullrich of Hayden, Idaho. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Holsinger Schultz of Warren, Ind.; her first husband, Colonel Donald William Ullrich, Sr., USAF (Retired), B.A., M.Div., M.A., of Miramar Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Paul Briggs McNicol, USMC (Retired), B.A., M.B.A., and brothers: Paul Harold “Hap” Holsinger, Charles Dingley “Chuck” Holsinger and David Newton Holsinger. 

Laura attended Wheaton College, Illinois, where she met her first husband, Donald Ullrich. They were married in December 1950. She then pursued her life’s calling in missionary work in the Philippines, proceeded by a career change living in several locations following Don’s assignments in the United States Air Force. After they separated in 1967, she then moved to California. She married Paul McNicol in December 1976, pursuing their combined passions of golf, travel, and real estate. Laura graduated with a degree in psychology from San Jose State University in 1980. In the coming years, Laura and Paul grew a successful real estate business as the owners and founders of MacReal Properties. Laura went on to found and own Barque Properties. Together they had holdings in the Bay Area, the Sacramento area, and in the Sierra foothills of California, and in the Coeur d‘Alene area of Idaho. Paul preceded her in death in 2010. 

Laura was well-known in her church and community. She was respected and admired by all who knew her. Her faith sustained her. Her love of the Lord was her strength. Laura would rise each morning with the sun to spend hours in prayer and devotion to the Lord. 

Laura was a loving mother to her five children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom held her lasting love and support until her passing. She is loved and treasured by all.
