PREP VOLLEYBALL: Storro, Marinello receive All-CIL honors
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 years, 1 month AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | November 1, 2023 1:00 AM
PRIEST RIVER – Priest River sophomores Jayda Storro and Toni Marinello received All-CIL (Central Idaho League) honors for their performances on the court this season.
First Team: Sophomore, Jayda Storro
Jayda racked up 336 assists, 80 digs, 41 aces and 32 kills as the Spartans’ go-to setter this season.
“Jayda is an excellent setter,” head coach Katlyn Ward said. “She was also voted by her team to be a captain as a sophomore. She excels in this leadership role.”
First Team: Sophomore, Toni Marinello
Toni recorded 305 service receptions, 140 digs, 18 kills and 16 aces as the Spartans’ main libero this season.
“Toni is an amazing libero; she is not afraid to put her body on the line for her team,” Ward said. “If the ball is in her zone she’s going to go for it. Toni proves that with her stats.”
Ward added that although Marinello and Storro are just sophomores, they are very much worthy of the awards they have received this season.
“Yes, I nominated them, but they were chosen by the other coaches (in the league) for their outstanding work on and off the court,” Ward said. “We couldn’t be more proud of these two young girls.”
