Advertising Sales Representative Jeannie Austin decorated this “IT”-inspired pumpkin scene, causing Managing Editor R. Hans “Rob” Miller to walk on the opposite side of the room most of the day on Halloween. Austin has been with the paper for some time and recently moved from our reception desk to the sales team. She is also one of the founders of Moms Helping Moms of Grant County, a Facebook group that works to support parents in the area.

Cecilia Suarez Johnson took first place in the costume contest. While she’s always a little squirrelly, she keeps the rest of the team from going nuts by tracking and taking care of ads as they move along in the process toward publication. She also helps out wherever she’s needed, often carrying out those spooky “other duties as assigned.” Whether she’s processing an insertion order to get an ad in the paper or a magazine, processing time sheets or just keeping us organized, she’s always on hand to make tasks easier when she can.
MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin Herald team had a Halloween celebration of our own Wednesday. Along with a potluck and dad jokes galore, the paper’s staff had costume and pumpkin decorating contests. With a variety of entries on both fronts, the two photos above show who came home with the blue ribbon in each category.

McCosh Park site of Lions Easter egg hunt Saturday
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Lions chapter will be sponsoring its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday at noon McCosh Park. It’s for children up to 12 years of age. The park is divided into zones for different ages, from birth to 3 years of age, 4 to 6 years, 7 to 10 years and 11 and 12 years. Parents should plan to have their children there on time, according to the organizers, since the egg hunters are released promptly at noon and it doesn’t take them long to make a clean sweep of the eggs.
Suspect arrested in Soap Lake arson case
SOAP LAKE — An unidentified man was arrested on suspicion of arson Wednesday after allegedly setting fire to clothing that ignited nearby brush. The fire was reported in the 2200 block of Road 20 Northeast at about 7:45 p.m., according to a post from Grant County Fire District 7.
