SPIRIT LAKE — A Spirit Lake woman is dead after an “officer-involved shooting” Wednesday night, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday, but details of the shooting remained unknown at press time.

Two Spirit Lake police officers responded to a residence around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a “suicidal threat call,” according to the sheriff’s office.

A shooting occurred at the residence, but police have not yet confirmed who fired the shots or whether anyone was hit. No officers were injured, according to the Spirit Lake Police Department.

The subject of the welfare check, identified by police as 67-year-old Sa Floyd, was “found deceased inside an apartment,” according to KCSO.

Her cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Kootenai County Undersheriff Brett Nelson said an autopsy was performed Thursday.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, according to the sheriff’s office. Nelson said this is standard procedure.

The shooting remains under investigation by the North Idaho Critical Incident Task Force, which includes agencies in the five northern counties. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency for this incident.
