Post Falls woman gets prison for DUI, fentanyl possession
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 2 months AGO
A Post Falls woman who reportedly injured a motorcyclist while driving under the influence has received a prison sentence.
Kaitlin R. Derby, 27, pleaded guilty in June to aggravated DUI and possession of fentanyl, both felonies, about a month after prosecutors said she crashed into a motorcyclist.
First District Judge Cynthia Meyer sentenced Derby on Thursday to 10 years in prison for aggravated DUI and five years for possession of fentanyl. The crimes carry maximum sentences of 15 years and seven years, respectively.
Derby will be eligible for parole in three years.
A blood sample collected after the crash determined that Derby had fentanyl and methamphetamine in her system at the time of the collision, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Derby was convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance in 2015 and 2019, prosecutors said. She was reportedly on felony probation at the time of the crash.
