SV Chamber introduces new winter market

KELLOGG –– “Shop local” is a rallying cry heard throughout small communities across the country, and the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce is always looking for new ways to help people shop locally, including with their Evening Winter Market.
The new event is a one-night-only community gathering in uptown Kellogg, where local vendors and craftspeople will have an opportunity to get a jump on the holiday gift-buying crowd.
Unlike other vendor events, SVC’s Evening Winter Market has very strict and specific rules for what can be sold.
“This event will be strictly handmade and homegrown,” SVC director Sarah Murphy said. “Only locally made items will be available for purchase. And we have some great artists and vendors slated to attend.”
The market is going to be set up for families to come and enjoy beyond just a little shopping, but also including activities for kids and refreshments for all ages.
“These events help generate excitement for gift giving and welcome the warmth and community spirit of the coming holidays,” Murphy said. “Santa’s helpers will be there to collect letters that kids pen at the ‘Letters to Santa’ table and deliver them to the North Pole for us. The hot cocoa bar will be a hit too.”
The event is being hosted at Radio Brewing in their historic and unique old fire hall building, where people will be able to meander in and out of the vendor area, hang out by the outdoor fire pit, and enjoy access to a glass of wine or a cold craft beer if they feel so inclined.
Murphy is excited to be part of bringing a new event to the community, especially one that embraces the ‘shop local’ mentality that the chamber works so hard to promote.
“Keeping money local helps your neighbors and friends and our local infrastructure,” Murphy said. “It helps the environment by reducing one's footprint. It highlights the unique artists and ideas of our area. It’s important to support local artists and entrepreneurs, it strengthens us all from within.”
The Chamber is currently planning for roughly 15 vendors, and can potentially fit in a few more if anyone is interested in jumping in last minute.
The Silver Valley Chamber’s Evening Winter Market is Saturday, November 11, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Radio Brewing Fire Hall – located at 29 W. Market Ave. in Kellogg.
