When we think limits limit us

I recently read a story of a man writing a memorial for a long-time business partner, friend and mentor.
The man who was being remembered, had lost both hands in a mining accident in the late 1800s. He went through life using only the stubs of his arms. Imagine the limits, if you can. Yet he'd made such a significant impact on the one remembering that he wrote, "Even a person with no hands can touch another's life."
In our fast-paced performance and results driven world it's easy to think, "If only I/we had … then we could make a real impact in the lives of others." Nothing could be further from the truth.
We have a heavenly Father who excels in taking the penniless, the simple, the young or old, the "uneducated," the wounded, damaged, and broken to be His image in our world. Sometimes it is in monumental ways but most often it's in the small and seemingly insignificant moments.
Imagine what it would be like if we took to heart to "Love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves."
When we think limits limit us, think again.
Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understandings; in all our ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
