COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene City Council incumbents scored big wins Tuesday.
Christie Wood easily defeated Seat 1 challenger Brian Winkler, 6,228 votes, 58%, to 4,447 votes, 33%.
Dan Gookin ran away from Clark Albritton in the race for Seat 3, 6,371 votes, 67%, to 4,265 votes, 33%.
Dan English, with 5,360 votes, 51%, cruised to victory over challengers Roger Garlock, 4,155 votes, 39%, and Rob Knutson,1,033 votes, 10%.
All positions are for four-year terms.
Gookin has been on the council since 2011, English since 2015 and Wood since 2019.
In Post Falls, incumbent Joe Malloy handily beat Rita Anderson for Seat 3 with 3,835 votes, 80%, to 930, 20%.
In the bid for Seat 1, vacated by Kerri Thoreson, Samantha Steigleder received 2,805 votes, 58%, followed by James Steffensen with 1,203 votes, 25%, and Bobby Wilhelm with 693 votes, 17%.
Randy Westlund claimed Seat 5, vacated by Lynn Borders. He had 2,799 votes, 59%, followed by Joe Bodman with 1,479 votes, 31%, and Cherilyn Towne with 485 votes, 10%.
Those were also four-year terms.
According to the Kootenai County Elections Department, 33,311 votes were cast out of 105,589 registered voters in 73 precincts, for a 31.5% voter turnout.

As if to prove it, signs on two kennel doors proclaim “I have been adopted! I’m currently waiting to be picked up by my new parents.” One is a timid black mastiff. But the shelter remains crowded. Monday, it has about 50 large dogs filling kennels, including in the new wing oped this year, and there is still a four-month waiting list with names of about 80 dogs that people are looking to surrender pets.
