PREP XC: Five Sandpoint runners named to All-District team

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | November 9, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Recently, five Sandpoint cross country runners received All-District honors for their efforts this season. To receive this honor, athletes must be among the top 12 runners throughout the entirety of District 1's 3A/4A/5A teams.

"To have five Sandpoint runners named to the All-District team was exciting news," head coach Mike Ehredt said.

For the girls, seniors Lily Richardson and Grace Rookey, and freshman Elizabeth Storms were named to the All-District team.

"Our three girls placed consistently high in all their meets this year," head coach Mike Ehredt said. "For Lily Richardson, Grace Rookey, and Elizabeth Storms, it was especially satisfying to see their efforts rewarded. Their summer prep and patience throughout the season paid off with Grace earning All-State and Lily and Elizabeth just missing those honors."

For the boys, seniors Nathan Roche and Daniel Ricks were also named to the All-District Team.

"Nathan and Daniel displayed strong individual efforts in every meet against stellar competition and were the backbone of this year's team," Ehredt said. "This honor is well deserved and a tribute to what hard work and perseverance can do. Nathan earned All-State honors and Daniel was just outside of that. I expect them both to have great futures as they transition to college next fall."

Sandpoint freshman Elizabeth Storms competes at the district meet earlier this season. Storms was recently named to the All-District cross country team for her efforts this season.
