NCESD elects three new board members

WENATCHEE — The North Central Educational Service District Board of Directors welcomed three new members, according to an announcement from the NCESD.
Three of the seven board positions were on the ballot, which was sent to all public school board members in the NCESD service region, according to the announcement. North Central ESD covers just over 12,600 miles and provides services to schools in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and Grant counties, serving more than 42,000 students. The board is composed of seven regionally elected members.
The following candidates have been elected to serve four-year terms beginning January 2024:
Michael Musick: Prior to moving to Leavenworth, Musick served as the superintendent of the Lake Oswego (Oregon) School District where he successfully led programs and initiatives to boost student achievement. He began his career in education as a business and marketing education teacher in 1982 before moving into various administrative roles. Musick represents the Cascade, Cashmere, Entiat, Lake Chelan, Manson and Stehekin school districts.
Larry MacGuffie: MacGuffie retired from his position at Canfield and Associates in Ephrata. Before that, he served 31 years as a classroom teacher, school psychologist, director of special services, director of Columbia Basin Alternative High School and superintendent of the Ephrata School District before his retirement in 1997. He represents Ephrata, Quincy, Soap Lake, Warden and Wilson Creek school districts.
Marcia Henkle: Henkle is retired from her position as regional director of the Washington State Employment Security Department, which administers employment and training programs in WorkSource offices in the region. Henkle was raised in Douglas County on a wheat farm and has taught high school and community college, including Wenatchee Valley College, and also operated Trend College in East Wenatchee. She represents Eastmont School District and the southern portion of the Wenatchee School District.
ESD Board Elections are managed by the Washington State School Directors’ Association, according to the announcement. All currently-seated public school board members in the NCESD region were given the opportunity to vote via an online ballot between Oct. 1 and Oct. 16.

Kennewick woman killed in Othello-area collision
OTHELLO — A Kennewick woman was killed when she ran into a semitruck at the intersection of SR 26 and South Booker Road early Thursday morning.
State Route 26 closed due to fatality collision
OTHELLO — State Route 26 is closed due to a fatality collision between a car and a semitruck near South Booker Road about four miles east of Othello, according to information from the Washington State Patrol and the Washington Department of Transportation. The road was closed about 6:30 a.m., according to the WSDOT. This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
Coeur d'Alene to host fair housing training
Event takes place at public library in October
In this spirit, the city of Coeur d’Alene will soon provide a free “Fair Housing and Hot Topics” training. Partnering with Intermountain fair Housing Council, the event is slated for noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room, 702 E. Front Ave.
