Spokane Velocity FC hires

Veidman as first head coach

The United Soccer League (USL) Spokane hired Leigh Veidman as the first head coach of its USL League One professional men’s Spokane Velocity FC team.

Veidman, most recently an assistant coach with the Charleston Battery of the USL Championship, brings to Spokane a wealth of coaching experience at the collegiate and professional levels.

“We were very fortunate to have a large and highly competitive applicant pool for this head coach position,” Spokane Velocity owner Ryan Harnetiaux said. “Leigh is a talented and well-respected coach, and his methodology and coaching style is a natural fit within our technical department and new organization.  We are looking forward to welcoming Leigh to Spokane and building an incredible community asset.”

Veidman, who hails from Liverpool, England, moved to the United States in 2008 and has since worked in nearly every level of the soccer pyramid in the USA. He has been with Charleston for the past season, helping to lead the club to the 2023 USL Championship Final. Previously, he was with the OKC Energy FC, one year as an assistant coach and one year as head coach, taking the team from 1-11-11 to playoff contention.

Cougars sign Stinson, Wilson

to hoops letters of intent

PULLMAN, Wash. – Two future Washington State student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball at WSU next fall, Cougar Head Coach Kyle Smith announced Wednesday. Evan Stinson and Marcus Wilson each expressed their intent to compete for the Cougars in the 2024-25 season.

Stinson, a 6-foot-7 forward from Cheney High, missed most of last winter with a broken foot, but returned to play with Dan Dickau's Spokane Elite AAU team.

Stinson’s aunt is current Washington State volleyball coach Jen Greeny, who herself set the WIAA 2B scoring record as a high schooler.

As a sophomore, Stinson was a first-team all-league selection in the Greater Spokane League, averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. The Cheney native will become the seventh Washington-born student-athlete on the Cougar basketball roster.

Wilson, a 6-2 guard from Albuquerque, N.M., attends Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Prior to arriving in Arizona, Wilson attended Cibola High School in Albuquerque and played club basketball for the Albuquerque Basketball Club. He was named one of New Mexico’s top prep players in the class of 2024, including recognition as the state’s No. 1 recruit in this year’s class.
