Whitefish High School speech and debate team took second place behind Columbia Falls at the Browning Invite over the weekend.
This strong team finish came after first placing in Polson the previous weekend. At Browning, the Bulldogs competed against teams from all around the state. Whitefish coach Sara Mueller was pleased with her team’s effort.
“We were thrilled to compete at the Browning Invitational this weekend,” she said. “We saw competition from many of our Class A, B, and C peers around the state who we frequently do not get occasion to see. Seeing what's going on across the state certainly pushes us in new ways. All students who traveled with us were able to place, including several who had their first trip to finals.”
Whitefish had four individual champions at the invite including Charlotte Perkins in Lincoln Douglas debate, Iona Saraille in impromptu and Scarlet Burke and Unity Loveless in duo interpretation.
Whitefish will head into Thanksgiving break with some energy and will be back in action on Dec. 2 in Frenchtown.
“Going into break, this tournament was a great experience to build some momentum,” Mueller said. “We capped off our second-place finish as a team with tournament champions in Lincoln-Douglas debate, impromptu, and duo interpretation.”
