Mitchell, a 5-foot-7 graduate student setter from Lake City High, was named Western Athletic Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player, recording 49 assists and a career-high 25 digs in the championship match against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday in Orem, Utah. During the tournament, Mitchell finished with 116 assists (11.6 per set) and 40 digs, leading the Lopes (23-7) to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. "I'm honestly in shock," Mitchell said. "We've been battling for five years. I'm just so grateful for such a special group to pull it out. We had so much fight in us all weekend. We played so clean. I'm just so proud of them."
