COLUMBIA BASIN — As local teams get into full swing of district competition, just a handful of Basin squads remain undefeated through the first five weeks of action. Check out this week’s local sports recap for an update on area football, girls soccer, slowpitch softball and volleyball teams.

All scores and records are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline

Football

The Warriors improved to 4-1 with Friday’s 48-30 road win over Mary Walker, surged by a 24-point third quarter where junior Carter Pitts and sophomore Caden Correia (twice) reached the end zone. ACH ran for 359 yards and five touchdowns in Friday’s win, and now hosts Wellpinit on Friday.

Volleyball

ACH racked up three more wins last week, improving to 7-1 with wins over Wilbur-Creston-Keller (3-0; 26-14, 25-12, 25-22), Mary Walker (3-2; 25-20, 35-33, 26-24, 25-15, 15-12) and Lake Roosevelt (3-0; 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21). Senior Natalie Evers led the Warriors in kills in each game, posting 14 against WCK, 22 against Mary Walker and 11 against Lake Roosevelt. The Warriors travel to Odessa on Tuesday.

Ephrata

Football

Ephrata lost 41-6 on the road to Cashmere on Friday, with the lone Tiger score coming off a kickoff returned 85 yards by senior Felipe Esquivel in the fourth quarter. The 3-2 Tigers travel to Selah on Friday for a Central Washington Athletic Conference matchup.

Girls Soccer

The Tigers went 1-2 last week, defeating Ellensburg 3-2 at home on Thursday but losing 2-1 to Prosser on Monday and 3-2 to Grandview on Saturday. Ephrata, now 5-6, travels to Selah on Thursday and hosts Othello on Saturday.

Volleyball

Ephrata improved to 5-2 with wins over East Valley (Yakima) and Grandview, both of which were sweeps. The Tigers defeated East Valley with set scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-20 and Grandview with set scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-10. Next up for Ephrata is Prosser on the road and Ellensburg at home.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague

Football

LRS suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, losing 30-0 to Northwest Christian (Colbert) in a matchup of previously undefeated teams. LRS had put together a strong drive late in the second quarter, but the Crusaders intercepted a Bronco pass and scored a 72-yard touchdown on the next play, going up 14-0 and snatching momentum before the half. The 4-1 Broncos travel to Jenkins (Chewelah) on Friday.

Volleyball

The Broncos remain undefeated through seven games this season, defeating Upper Columbia Academy and St. George’s in sweeping fashion last week. LRS, 7-0, has three straight road games this week; against Kittitas on Tuesday, against Northwest Christian on Thursday and Kettle Falls on Saturday.

Moses Lake

Football

The Mavericks are now 5-0 after Friday’s 35-14 road win over Wenatchee, and 2-0 in the Columbia Basin Big 9. Sophomore quarterback Brady Jay threw for 353 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in the win, with senior Keston Roylance, junior Tommy Ransom Jr. and senior Joel Middleton all hauling in scores. Moses Lake hosts Davis on Friday.

Girls Soccer

Moses Lake split last week’s games, defeating Davis 2-0 on Tuesday before falling 5-1 to Wenatchee on Saturday. The 4-5 Mavs, who are 4-2 in the Big 9, host Othello on Tuesday and Eisenhower on Saturday.

Slowpitch Softball

The Mavs went 3-2 in games last week, picking up two wins over Wenatchee and a win over Cheney before falling to Walla Walla in both games of a doubleheader Thursday. The 10-3 Mavericks host Davis and travel to Chiawana this week.

Volleyball

After a 3-0 start in league play, the Mavs have lost their last three games in the Big 9; a 3-0 loss to West Valley (Yakima) on Sept. 21, a 3-1 loss to Davis on Tuesday and a 3-0 loss to Wenatchee on Saturday. Moses Lake (4-4) travels to Eisenhower on Thursday.

MLCA/CCS

Football

The Lions remain undefeated at 5-0 after Friday’s 52-20 win on the road over Tekoa-Rosalia, and now prepare to face off against Entiat on Thursday night.

Volleyball

After back-to-back league wins two weeks ago, the Lions dropped Central Washington 1B contests against Waterville-Mansfield (3-0) on Tuesday and Riverside Christian (3-2) on Thursday. MLCA/CCS hosted Cascade Christian on Monday, then host Soap Lake on Tuesday and Easton on Thursday.

Othello

Football

Girls Soccer

The Huskies fell in all three of their outings last week, all of which were CWAC contests. First was a 2-1 loss to Ellensburg on Tuesday, followed by a 1-0 loss to Grandview on Thursday. On Saturday, Othello dropped to 5-5 with a 5-0 loss to Selah. Up this week for the Huskies are road games against Moses Lake on Tuesday and Ephrata on Saturday.

Volleyball

Othello secured its first CWAC win of the season on Thursday, defeating East Valley (Yakima) 3-0 on their home court. This week, the Huskies will travel to Grandview on Tuesday and host Prosser on Thursday.

Quincy

Football

The Jackrabbits got back into the win column with Friday’s 34-0 win over Cascade (Leavenworth), opening up Caribou Trail League play with a win over the Kodiaks. Quincy, now 3-2, travels to Omak on Friday.

Girls Soccer

The 6-2 Jacks split last week’s matches, first defeating Chelan on the road on Tuesday 1-0 before falling 2-1 to Cascade at home Thursday. With a 1-1 record in the CTL, Quincy has two league contests this week; at Omak on Tuesday, at home against Cashmere on Thursday and a non-league home game against Kiona-Benton on Saturday.

Volleyball

After falling 3-0 on the road to Chelan on Tuesday, Quincy picked up a league win against Cascade on Thursday, defeating the Kodiaks 3-1 on its home floor. The Jackrabbits travel to Omak on Tuesday and Cashmere on Thursday.

Royal

Football

The Knights improved to 5-0 with Friday’s 45-0 win over Wahluke, led by 287 yards passing and four touchdowns by junior Lance Allred. Senior Jared Lee rushed six times for 59 yards and the game’s opening touchdown, while senior Case Christensen caught four passes for 87 yards and three scores. After the first league win of the season, Royal hosts Kiona-Benton on Friday.

Girls Soccer

Royal picked up its second league win 4-0 at home against Connell on Tuesday, but fell 2-0 on the road against Kiona-Benton on Friday. With a 2-1 league record, Royal hosts College Place on Tuesday and La Salle on Thursday.

Volleyball

After a 3-2 home loss against Connell on Tuesday, Royal bounced back with a sweep over Kiona-Benton on Thursday to improve to 2-1 in the South Central Athletic Conference (East). Royal hosts College Place and La Salle this week.

Soap Lake

Football

Soap Lake won its first game of the season on Friday, racking up a 28-0 win over Oroville at home Friday night. The Eagles travel to Bridgeport on Friday afternoon for a league contest.

Volleyball

The Eagles suffered their first league loss of the year in their lone game last week, losing 3-1 to Central Washington 1B-leading Waterville-Mansfield. After Monday’s game against Wilson Creek, the 4-2 Eagles travel to MLCA/CCS on Tuesday and Pateros on Thursday.

Wahluke

Football

The Warriors were held to 144 total yards in Friday’s 45-0 road loss to Royal, falling to 1-4 this season. Wahluke travels to College Place on Friday.

Girls Soccer

There were no ties for the Warriors last week, tying 1-1 to Toppenish on Tuesday and defeating College Place 4-1 for their first league win of the season Thursday. Wahluke has back-to-back road games this week, traveling to Connell and Kiona-Benton.

Volleyball

Wahluke was swept twice last week, losing 3-0 to both Toppenish and College Place. The Warriors travel to Connell and Kiona-Benton this week.

Warden

Football

The Cougars opened league play with a home loss Friday, falling 54-8 to River View. Warden (2-3) travels to Columbia (Burbank) on Thursday.

Girls Soccer

Warden lost 8-0 on the road to Highland on Tuesday, falling to 1-6 this season. Up this week are road games against Granger and Mabton.

Volleyball

The strong start to the season continued last week for the Cougars, who are undefeated 10 games into the year. Warden defeated Prosser (3-2), Connell (3-1) and Walla Walla Valley (3-2) last week, moving to 10-0. The Cougars host River View in a battle of undefeated teams Tuesday and travel to Tri-Cities Prep on Saturday.

Wilson Creek

Volleyball

Wilson Creek improved to 4-2 with wins over Pateros on Tuesday and Cascade Christian on Thursday, both of which were sweeps for the Devils. Up next for Wilson Creek after Monday’s game against Soap Lake is a home game against Easton on Tuesday.
