MOSES LAKE — Out in the music world, there are many — oh, so many — “boy bands,” groups of three or four or five impossibly good-looking young men who sing shallow lyrics and perform complicated dance moves while mugging for the camera.

The Suits are not that band.

Yes, there are four of them, and yes, they’re handsome young men who sing and dance. But the similarities stop there. The Suits are a throwback to an earlier time when clean-cut doo-wop singers wore matching suits and ties and the voices blended in gentle harmony. They’re not a boy band, they’re four dynamic gentlemen who sing, as their website describes them.

The Suits are the first in the Central Basin Community Concert Association’s 2023-2024 lineup, performing Oct. 12 at the Wallenstien Theater at Big Bend Community College.

The quartet — they don’t even use names in their performances, just Suit One, Suit Two and so forth — perform music from a variety of genres: Motown, doo-wop, rock, pop; from four decades, the 1950s to the 1980s; from artists as diverse the Beatles, Billy Joel, the Four Seasons and Aerosmith. They render this array of songs in an unself-consciously classic style, with tight harmonies and choreography that’s smooth but not flashy.

The Central Basin Community Concert Association has been bringing quality music to the Columbia Basin since 1954, according to its website. Besides The Suits, the CBCCA will bring three other acts to the Wallenstien this season: The Rice Brothers in November, and Sail On and David Shannon in April.
