Arlee spoils Plains homecoming with shutout win

It was not a special Homecoming, thanks to the Arlee Warriors football team, although alumni still had a good time cheering for a team sure to return to prominence in the town of Plains.
Full stats were not made available, but the bottom line was a 50-6 defeat by Arlee over the Horsemen last Friday night, putting at least a bit of a damper on Homecoming festivities.
Arlee, which improved to 6-0 on the year with the win, struck first via a two-yard TD run that, with a failed point after touchdown (PAT) attempt that left the Horsemen in an early 6-0 hole.
However, Plains struck back quickly via the passing arm of senior quarterback Darren Standeford, who hooked up with wide receiver Aden West on an eight-yard touchdown pass with 2:27 left in the opening period, given fans hope the revitalized Horsemen were on the verge of what would be a major upset in Class B-8 conference play.
The Plains’ TD also involved a failed PAT try, tying the score at six points each. From that point on, it was pretty much all Arlee, as they took advantage of a drive-ending interception to wipe out a Plains drive.
What followed was a display by the unbeaten Warriors who coasted to a lopsided win against the Horsemen, which earlier this year had ended a two-plus year victory drought with a big win over Troy.
The win boosted Arlee to 6-0 on the year and 6-0 in the Western 7B conference standings, while Plains fell 1-5 on the year and 1-4 in the league.
Next up for the Horsemen is a Senior Day matchup with the Victor Pirates this Saturday afternoon at 1 pm in Plains.
