COEUR d’ALENE — Junior forward Jacob Molina scored in the 63rd minute for Lake City, which ended the regular season with a 2-1 nonleague win over the Sandpoint Bulldogs on senior day Tuesday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.
“It was nice for our seniors to close out the regular season with a win,” Lake City coach Kevin Jump said. “Sandpoint gave us a very competitive match today. I thought we did an excellent job in defending — forcing them to settle for poor shots from distance. Sandpoint got a fortuitous goal in the second half off a corner kick. The ball was bouncing back and forth inside our goalkeeper’s 6-yard box, and we thought we’d gotten the clearance off the goal line, but they were awarded a goal. It was good for us to have Sandpoint score, but I wanted to see how we would respond. And the boys really got after it.”
Lake City (13-0) hosts Lewiston in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.

SANDPOINT — Freshman Kathryn Kovatch scored with 30 seconds remaining for the Timberwolves in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs at Memorial Field.
“Obviously, it’s a tough loss to swallow, giving up a goal with 30 seconds left in the game,” Sandpoint coach Conor Baranski said. “It was a strange game in the sense that neither team could ever get a rhythm. We just made a mistake to allow them to get a goal at the end.”
