PRIEST RIVER — Despite a rough first 15 minutes, the Spartans held their own in a 4-0 loss to the Badgers on Wednesday.

“We had a rough first 15 minutes but then began to level out,” assistant coach Nick Tucker said. “Our touch was off, and our defense, who has done very well these past couple games, was just a little off. I’m hoping we can get back on track for another big league game tomorrow.”

On defense, Priest River’s Haley Braae knocked away a countless number of Badger chances. Defender Rebecca Sedbrook and goalkeeper Brooklyn Best also played well against a strong Badger attack; Best racked up 10 saves for the Spartans.

“I think Haley (Braae) should be the defensive player of the year,” Tucker said. “There isn’t a single player in this league who can get by her.”

Tucker also mentioned how freshman Tatum Grebe, in just her sixth game of all-time, has improved tremendously, and that defender Sam Pound played great on the wing.

Bonners Ferry’s Brenly Hymas led the Badgers, scoring two early goals. Maddie Hart contributed two assists while Markynn Pluid came away with a goal and an assist. The Badgers scored all four of their goals in the first half.

Priest River (6-7) hosts Timberlake for senior night today.

PRIEST RIVER — Bonners Ferry standout forward Eli Newell scored four goals for the Badgers en route to a 6-0 victory over Priest River on Wednesday.

Senior Jesse Dye and junior Jesse Fess also scored goals on the night for Bonners Ferry.

Priest River (2-10) hosts Timberlake for senior night today.
