The Lady Hawks have taken flight, and it comes at the right time of the year.
This past week they swept a pair of conference opponents, winning a tough 3-2 match at home against St. Ignatius, then following that with a 3-0 road sweep of Superior Saturday evening.
The pair of victories pushed T Falls to 8-3 on the year and 6-0 in Western 7B conference play, where they are one-half game up on Eureka, which at last report was 5-0.
T Falls opened the week in a dog fight with St. Ignatius in Thompson Falls. The Lady Hawks took the opening set 25-22, then made it a 2-0 match lead when they also won the second set 25-20.
But the Lady Bulldogs were by no means done and they showed it with a 25-23 set three victory that left T Falls with a 2-1 match advantage. Buoyed by their win, St. Ignatius controlled the fourth set which ended in a 25-18 match-tying victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
That set up a fifth set tie-breaker. After a back and forth battle, the Hawks managed to pull ahead, scoring the last four points on their way to a 15-11 win. That gave Thompson Falls a 3-2 victory, and kept them apace with Eureka as the two head toward a two-game showdown in the final weeks of the regular season.
Six-foot sophomore Gabi Hannum had an outstanding game for the Lady Hawks, leading the team in service aces with seven, kills (9), and blocks with four. She also had 11 assists.
Annalise Fairbank was also good, topping the Lady Hawks with 12 assists to go with her six kills. Addi Pardee had a team high 15 digs and contributed 6 digs, while Olivia Fitchett added 13 digs for the Lady Hawks.
Saturday afternoon in Superior, the Hawks took on the young Lady Bobcats and came away with a 3-0 sweep.
T Falls took control early, winning the first set 25-15 to take a 1-0 match lead. They won the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-11 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Lyla Beaudoin had nine digs, along with five assists and two kills to lead the Lady Cats, who also got 10 digs from Shaylie Smalley.
Fitchett led T Falls with eight service aces and was tied for the team lead in assists with Fairbank. Hannum continued her strong play up front, racking up eight kills and one block to help the Hawks control the net. Addi Pardee had eight digs to top the Lady Hawks to go with her six kills.
The Lady Hawks travel to Plains this Thursday (Oct 12) to take on Sanders County rival Plains. They then play at home Saturday against the 14C conference leading Charlo Vikings.
Next up for Superior is a home game tonight (Tuesday) against Arlee. They then journey to Troy for a Thursday (Oct 12) game vs the Lady Trojans.
