It was an even par week for the Noxon Lady Devils volleyball crew, as they fell to Western 14C conference leader Charlo Friday night at home, then traveled to St. Regis and swept the Lady Tigers Saturday evening.
Friday the Lady Devils hosted Charlo in a showdown of two of the conference’s top teams. In the end, Charlo emerged with a 3-1 match win.
The Lady Devils then traveled to St. Regis Saturday night and spoiled Homecoming for the Lady Tigers volleyballers with a 3-0 sweep of the home team.
Against Charlo, Noxon grabbed a 1-0 match lead with a 25-19 win over the Vikes in the first set. Charlo roared back in the second set with a resounding 25-11 win that squared the match at one set each.
The Lady Vikings kept up their momentum in the crucial third set and took an early lead on their way to a 25-9 set win and a 2-1 match lead.
Charlo used their talented front line to secure the match victory via a 25-16 fourth set triumph.
Charlo got several double figure stats from throughout its lineup, paced by Aida Cote’s match high 14 kills. She also had two blocks. Teammate Shonlea Matt recorded a match best 20 digs for the Lady Vikes, while Karly Adler had an evening topping 16 assists for the visitors.
Abby Yoder led the Lady Devils with 11 digs, to go with her one kill and one assist, while teammate Maygan Swanson had six digs, four service aces, two kills and one block.
Saturday night Noxon rolled into St. Regis and found an improving Lady Tigers team waiting for them. The Lady Devils took the first set 25-14, then had to go into overtime the next two sets to pull out the sweep.
The two teams were tied six times in the late going of the second set, including a final time at 24-24. However, a pair of ill-timed net serves by the Lady Tigers opened the door that allowed Noxon to escape with a 26-24 second set win as they took a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was even tighter than the second set. St. Regis had at one point opened an 18-12 lead, but the Lady Devils roared back and tied the match at 18, then pulled ahead 19-18. After St. Regis tied the score at 19-each, Noxon rattled off two straight points to go up 21-19.
St. Regis battled back and tied the game at 24, then again at 25 after Noxon had gone in front 25-24. Noxon knotted the score at 25, then scored two straight points to eke out the 27-25 third set win and complete the 3-0 match sweep.
Noxon has a home match scheduled for this Thursday (varsity only) versus Mullan, Idaho. They then take a long road trip to Gardiner for a match Saturday afternoon with the Lady Bruins.
