The Hayden Lake Family History Center will host Family History Discovery Day on Saturday, Oct. 21, and all are invited.

Discovery Day offers 16 class sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hayden Lake Family History Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2293 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

"This year's theme, 'YOU-niting families across generations' is set to be another smash hit with area genealogists and those just beginning their family search journey," said organizers in a press release. "Together we will learn about those that came before and how we’re all connected."

Mike Sandberg will be the keynote speaker for this Family History Discovery Day.

"Mike believes deeply in connecting our past (deceased and living) through the worldwide family tree on the FamilySearch Website and Family Tree app," said the release. "Through family searching we gain precious perspective on life and the power of connection. We see that most families are messy, and it’s moving to see there is meaning in that messiness."

Sandberg, who lives in Utah, has had the opportunity to help thousands through workshops and online forums discover the joy that comes from connecting the past with the present.

He spent eight years working as senior product manager for FamilySearch and is a market researcher. He currently works for Adobe mentoring for quality product management.

This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be served.
