STCU awards $20,000 in classroom grants

COEUR d'ALENE — STCU is awarding $20,000 to 100 randomly drawn educators, including some in North Idaho.

Winners can spend their grants on anything that will enhance students’ classroom experience, whether a basic need or something special, according to a press release.

Local winners are:

Christian Center School: Desiree Williams

Coeur d'Alene School District: Austyn Gunderson, Coeur d’Alene High School; Lisa Vickers, Northwest Expedition Academy; Van Lehn, Borah Elementary

Elevate Academy North: Christine Simpson

Genesee Joint School District 282: Jeanne Happy and JR Morrow, Genesee School; Genesis Preparatory Academy, Debbie Holte

Hayden Canyon Charter: Jadrian Hammon

Holy Family Catholic School: Hannah Wilcox

Kootenai Classical Academy: Jerome Long

Lake Pend Oreille School District: Ann Dickinson, Sandpoint Middle School

Lakeland School District: Berenice Munyer, Lakeland Middle School; Katrina Tyson, Twin Lakes Elementary

Moscow School District: Taylor Bieker, John Russell Elementary

North Idaho STEM Charter Academy: Lori Clark

Post Falls School District: Audrey Tully and Josh Hansen, Post Falls Middle School; Summer Smith, Seltice Elementary

Potlatch School District 285: Anna Carlson and Trisha Smeltzer, Potlatch Elementary

West Bonner County School District: Michael Tomt, Priest River Lamanna High School; Sara Butler, Priest River Elementary

The online drawing was open to teachers, counselors and other classroom-based positions at public and private districts served by Washington Educational Service Districts 101, 123 and 171, or in the eight northernmost counties of Idaho. This marks the 10th year that Spokane Teachers Credit Union, which has more than 270,000 members, has offered the grants.
