WHITEFISH — Delaney Smith and Olivia Genovese each scored twice and the Whitefish Bulldogs dispatched the Billings Central Rams 4-0 on Saturday in a Class A soccer quarterfinal at Smith Fields.
It was the first and only time this season that the Rams (6-4-3), also the defending state champions, were shut out.
“We were very prepared for how they were going to attack us, how they were gonna play,” Whitefish coach Roland Benedict said. “Good teams, good players, they're gonna carve out chances. They're gonna get stuff. We will make mistakes and it's how you handle 'em. A great performance from the group.”
Smith scored twice in the first half for a 2-0 Whitefish lead, then Genovese added a goal from a penalty kick and another off a pass across the box from Smith, both goals coming a minute apart.
“It could have been 6-0, we had a couple chances we should have put away that didn't go in,” Benedict said. “Their keeper made a couple good saves, a couple tackles that went their way and 1 v 1s. But the scary thing is, we can get better and we're gonna get better.”
The Bulldogs (11-2-0) will play host to Eastern No. 2 Lockwood in a semifinal on Saturday, game time to be announced.

Boys
Whitefish 2, Livingston 0
WHITEFISH — Ryder Elliott and Kyler Jonson’s late goals helped lift the Whitefish boys to a 2-0 quarterfinal win over the Livingston Rangers at Smith Fields on Saturday.
“A fun game to watch and we're really excited to get another one at home next weekend,” Whitefish boys coach John Lacey said. “Our central midfielders played great, the defense held stuff down again in the back. We had to give a little love to our crossbar because they hit a shot that would've been a goal of the year candidate, but the post or the crossbar saved it.”
The Rangers (7-4-2) beat Whitefish last fall en route to the Class A final. Whitefish (13-0-0) will face visiting Lone Peak in a semifinal game on Saturday.

Whitefish, Billings Central boys set for Class A soccer final
It’s safe to say it might be a low-scoring boys Class A soccer final at Billings’ Amend Park on Saturday at noon. Between the two of them, Whitefish and Billings Central have allowed fewer than 15 goals this fall. Officially, Whitefish has allowed six and Billings Central eight. Neither have allowed a goal thus far in the playoffs.
