BASIN SPORTS RECAP: Playoffs on the horizon

COLUMBIA BASIN — District playoffs are right around the corner, as local teams head down the stretch of their respective regular seasons. Check out this week’s local sports recap, with scores and records for local football, girls soccer, slowpitch softball, swim and dive and volleyball squads.

All scores, records and standings are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline

Football

After holding a 16-14 lead in the second quarter, the ACH Warriors were outscored 36-14 down the stretch of Friday night’s 50-30 loss to Wilbur-Creston-Keller, dropping the Warriors to 5-2 this season. ACH gained 311 yards of total offense to WCK’s 489 in the loss. The Warriors host Odessa on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Volleyball (9-2): 3-0 wins over Wellpinit on Oct. 10, Chesterton Academy on Thursday.

Ephrata

Football

Ephrata held Grandview to less than 50 yards of total offense in Friday night’s 48-14 win over the Greyhounds, keeping Grandview out of the end zone until the fourth quarter in the win. Junior running back Elijah Chavez-Mabry led the Tigers in rushing with 72 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, and sophomore quarterback Brady Hendrick threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Ephrata (5-2) travels to Prosser on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer (6-8): 5-0 loss to East Valley (Yakima) on Thursday.

Volleyball (7-3): 3-1 win over Selah on Oct. 10.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague

Volleyball

The Broncos remain unbeaten after back-to-back home games last week, defeating Reardan 3-0 on Oct. 10 and Liberty (Spangle) 3-0 on Thursday. With a 12-0 mark, LRS wraps up the regular season on Tuesday on the road against Davenport at 6:30 p.m.

Moses Lake

Football

Friday night’s 50-15 win on the road over Sunnyside was the fifth time the Mavericks have scored 40-plus points in a game so far this season, improving Moses Lake to 7-0. Moses Lake, who is outscoring opponents 312-88 this season, hosts West Valley (Yakima) on Friday night at 7 p.m.

MLCA/CCS

Football

The Lions picked up yet another win on Friday night, defeating Oroville 50-28 at home. MLCA/CCS (7-0) faces off against Waterville-Mansfield in a battle of the undefeated atop the Central Washington 1B league.

Othello

Football

Othello recorded another win in the Central Washington Athletic Conference on Friday, taking down the Ellensburg Bulldogs 17-10 at home. The Huskies, who stand in second place in the CWAC, host Kelso in a non-league contest Friday night at 5 p.m.

Girls Soccer (5-9): 4-0 loss to East Valley (Yakima) on Oct. 10, 3-2 loss to Prosser Thursday.

Quincy

Football

Quincy picked up its second Caribou Trail League win of the season, improving to 4-3 with a 26-25 win over Chelan at home Friday night. The Jackrabbits remain at home Friday night in a non-league contest against Medical Lake at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer (10-4): 3-0 win over Brewster on Oct. 10, 3-0 win over Chelan Thursday, 4-1 loss to Freeman ON Saturday.

Volleyball (4-8): 3-0 loss to Chelan on Thursday.

Royal

Girls soccer

Royal split last week’s matches, falling 3-1 to Wahluke on Oct. 10 before picking up a 2-0 league win against Connell on Thursday. At 7-4-2, the Knights play host to South Central Athletic Conference (East)-leading Kiona-Benton on Tuesday before traveling to College Place on Thursday.

Volleyball (6-5): 3-1 win over Wahluke Thursday, 3-1 loss to Connell on Thursday.

Soap Lake

Volleyball

The Eagles improved to 10-2 with two sweeps last week, defeating Thorp 3-0 on Oct. 10 and Cascade Christian 3-0 on Thursday. Soap Lake wraps up its regular season with a road game against Riverside Christian on Tuesday and a home game against Entiat on Thursday.

Wahluke

Girls soccer

Wahluke picked up a league win in a rivalry match against Royal on Oct. 10, defeating the Knights 3-1 at home before falling 1-0 to Toppenish on Thursday. The 7-4-2 Warriors have back-to-back home games this week, hosting College Place on Tuesday and Connell on Thursday.

Warden

Volleyball

The Cougars remain in second place in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (East) with a 3-0 win over Tri-Cities Prep on Oct. 10. Warden (12-1) travels to Columbia (Burbank) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer (3-8): 2-0 win over White Swan on Oct. 10, 2-0 loss to Goldendale on Thursday.

Wilson Creek

Volleyball

The Devils fell to 7-5 after two losses last week, falling 3-0 to Waterville-Mansfield on Oct. 10 and 3-2 to Republic on Thursday. Wilson Creek ends the regular season with two road games this week, traveling to Entiat on Tuesday and Pateros on Thursday.
