Co-op Tigers rebound in win over Lakeside

After last week’s Homecoming loss to Shelby, St. Regis-Mullan Idaho football co-coach Jesse Allan vowed the team would shake it off and get back in the saddle this week.
He is either a talented seer or a coach who knows his team.
Likely both.
So it is no big surprise that the co-op Tigers rebounded from the Shelby loss and went back to work, this time against Idaho conference foe Lakeside.
The result of refocusing was a solid 46-30 conference win the Knights with only a game against Mullan rival Wallace, Idaho left on the regular season schedule for the conference leading Tigers.
With standout senior running back/defensive back Alex Trogden out for the season, the Tigers have turned to senior Kofi Appiah to step in and help the running attack that has been centered around St. Regis student John Pruitt. The Nigerian born Appiah has proven to be a solid replacement.
And Pruitt extended his season-long 100-plus yards per game streak, while Appiah added 120 in the win over Lakeside. Pruitt gained 125 yards for the game.
Each running back had a rushing touchdown in the process.
The visiting Tigers jumped out to a 16-0 first quarter lead, then extended it to 28-8 by halftime.
They kept up the offensive fireworks in the second half, aided by a touchdown via a fumble recovery for the defensive by Josh Houston.
After three quarters of play, St. Regis-Mullan was up 40-16 and reserves got some valuable playing time with the Idaho state playoffs for eight-player teams beginning the weekend after this one.
Freshman quarterback Conner Lulis threw for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Tigers’ win. One of those TD’s was to sophomore Barrett Bassette, who had 50 yards receiving during the contest.
On defense, junior Hunter Stolla had another interception, giving him six this year. Stolla also was on the receiving end of a Lulis TD pass and had 57 yards in catches.
“The boys played well,” Allan said. “We were able to get some young guys in to finish the game, which allowed Lakeside to get in a few late scores. Great for our younger guys to get some reps as well as rest some of our other guys”.
The win boosted St. Regis to 7-1 on the season. They play Wallace in Mullan this Friday evening.
