SPIRIT LAKE — Idaho State Police is investigating an early morning two-vehicle crash north of Spirit Lake on Thursday in which a Coeur d'Alene man died.

ISP troopers said a 39-year-old male was northbound on Highway 41 near milepost 20 when he left the road in his white 2016 Ford 150 pickup. The vehicle entered the northbound ditch, went left of center, and entered the southbound lane when he struck a 1987 Kenworth log truck head on that was southbound on the highway.

The driver of the pickup was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, ISP troopers said in a press release.

The driver of the log truck, a 48-year-old male from Chewelah, Wash., was not injured in the crash.

Highway 41 was blocked for approximately 4 hours.

The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

Assisting at the scene were the Bonner County Sheriff's Office, Bonner County EMS, and Spirit Lake EMS.
