Janet Christine Carstensen-Pulis of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Oct. 10, 2023. Janet was born July 27, 1967, to Larry and Charlotte Neihart-Carstensen in Vicenza, Italy, where Larry was stationed in the Air Force. Shortly after Janet was born, the family moved back to the States, settling in Jasper, Minn., where her sister, Michelle was born.

Janet’s childhood years were spent taking dance lessons, piano lessons (of which she was very accomplished) and being a Girl Scout. Growing up, Janet spent summers at her grandparents’ cabin on beautiful Priest Lake, Idaho, where she learned to swim, waterski and, in the winter months, snowmobiled the many trails around the lake. When Janet was 11, the family moved to Hayden, Idaho. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School Class of 1985. She participated in many school activities, was the head Vikette of the Vikettes Drill Team, and made many lifelong friends. Janet attended the University of Idaho in Moscow and studied fashion design at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemont, Minn. Four more cross-country moves — from Idaho to Minnesota and back — were made before she settled in her forever home of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She joined the Red Hot Mamas and had the privilege of marching in the inaugural parade for President George H. Bush. She was a proud and devoted Mom to sons Mason and Jordan.

Janet’s professional career was varied. Early on she was a flight attendant for several years, flying throughout the U.S. and many times overseas, thus starting a lifelong love of travel and adventure. She was a volunteer EMT when she lived in Jasper and worked many years in the banking industry as a bank manager for Twin City Federal, and as vice president at First National Bank, both in Pipestone, Minn. Janet also worked at Louisiana Pacific for several years and the Coeur d’Alene School District.

On Oct. 28, 2007, Janet married Dave Pulis. Together they have owned and operated the Moose and Goat lounges in downtown Coeur d’Alene. To fulfill her love of adventure, she and Dave were able to travel many times to Mexico, all over the U.S., and of course to her birth country, Italy — she was truly an Italian at heart. A few years ago, she and Dave were able to build their summer cabin at Priest Lake. She spent many hours enjoying the peace and quiet, looking out at the lake she so loved. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren; Camden, Beau, Collin, Adelyn Tweedt and Hazel and Piper Pulis. She was over the moon being a grandmother to these beautiful children.

Janet is survived by her husband, Dave; sons Mason (Miranda) Tweedt, and Jordan (Alycia) Tweedt; stepson Jake Pulis, stepdaughter Amanda (David) Rosier; her grandchildren; mother Charlotte Carstensen; sister Michelle Carstensen; father-in-law Dick Pulis; and sister-in-law Lynn (Roly) Garzer. She is also survived by nephew Preston and niece Irelynd Lightle and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Larry Carstensen.

Service will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Oct. 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. Reception in Janet’s honor will immediately follow at the Moose Lounge, 401 E. Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller Hospice House.
