Lincoln County officials have identified a man who died after being struck by a vehicle late on the night of Oct. 14.
County Coroner Steve Schnackenberg said the man was 40-year-old Matt England. He said the man was visiting the area, but is from Washington.
England died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while he was on U.S. 2 just east of city limits.
According to a report by Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Virgil Sadewasser, the man was in the outside westbound lane at 11:44 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 18-year-old Libby woman. She was accompanied by a 27-year-old Libby woman. Neither woman was injured.
The man was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center where he died.
Sadewasser’s report indicated the road was dry and that alcohol, drugs and speed were not suspected factors in the accident.
According to Montana Highway Patrol, there have been 142 fatalities on Montana highways in 2023 compared to 163 fatalities for this same time in 2022.
In 2022, there were a total of 207 fatalities.
