May, a sophomore, won the 5A Region 1 championship last week at Farragut State Park in 18 minutes, 56 seconds, helping lead the Vikings to the regional title. “She’s just a hard worker,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Cathy Compton of May, who finished sixth at state as a freshman. “She had to battle back from an injury, but has been consistent in everything that she does this year. She’s running really well right and really has a chance to shine at state.”
