Plains volleyball enters playoffs on hot streak

Winning two of the last three regular season games, and seven of the last nine is not a bad way to finish the regular season volleyball schedule.
The Trotters no doubt would have liked to have gone 9-0 in that stretch, but 7-2 ain’t bad with the District 7B playoffs just around the corner.
And that corner, by the way, is in Plains, home of the Trotters.
Plains got their week off to a solid start last Tuesday with a 3-1 match win over Hot Springs on the Trotters home court. Two nights later, once again on their home court, Plains ran into Western 7B leading Eureka and fell 3-0. They closed out the week and their regular season with a road trip to Troy, where they swept the Lady Trojans, 3-0.
Hot Springs, playing Tuesday with heavy hearts due to the death of a high school classmate, put up a stiff fight but could not get by the red hot Trotters.
Both teams traded points throughout a neck-and-neck first set, with Plains pulling away at the end for a 26-24 win and a 1-0 match lead.
The second set was all Plains as they jumped to an early lead and controlled the game the rest of the way in what was a 25-10 win and a 2-0 match advantage.
However, Hot Springs showed it was not out of the fight in the third set, battling the Trotters all the way and eventually winning 25-23 to trim the Plains match lead to 2-1.
But Plains regained its early form in the fourth set, taking a 25-14 victory that secured a 3-1 match win.
Senior Lauren Aldridge paced the Lady Heat with seven kills, four aces and three digs. Claire Lakko continued her torrid assist pace with a match best 30 for the Trotters. Teammate Teagan Saner led Plains in kills (11), and blocked shots with five. Her sister, Taylor Saner, had a match high 11 kills. Blakely Lakko paced Plains with five service aces to go with her eight kills and six digs.
Thursday night Plains hosted regular season 7B leader Eureka, which would leave town with a sparkling 15-1 season record, and a 9-0 conference mark.
The visiting Lady Lions wasted little time taking control of the match, as they have done all year, and took the opening set 25-11. They followed that set win with a 25-15 win in set two, then wrapped up the sweep by downing the Trotters 25-10 in the third set on their way to their twelfth sweep of the season.
Claire Lakko had seven assists to lead the Trotters effort against the Lady Lions, while Teagan Sander added four kills, and Jaelyn Carr chipped in a team best six digs for the home-standing Trotters.
From there it was on to Troy for a match with the 3-12 Lady Trojans. In what turned out to be an intense match from start to finish, Plains took the first set 25-23. The next two sets were settled by identical 25-23 counts in favor of the Trotters, giving Plains a 3-0 road sweep to close out regular season play.
The win boosted Plains to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
Leslie Gravier had 13 aces to lead the Lady Lions, while teammate Kirsti Jellesed recorded 25 assists and added 16 digs for Troy.
Taylor Saner had a match-best 19 digs to lead Plains, while sister Teagan had a team-best seven kills and three blocks. Clair Lakko led the Trotters in assists once again, this time racking up 18. She also had two blocks.
The Trotters return to the court this Friday and Saturday as hosts of the Western 7B tournament at Plains High.
