Linda Sue Funke, 76
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 2 months AGO
Linda Sue (Stiles) Funke, 76, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side Oct. 7, 2023. She was born in St. Maries, Idaho, on Feb. 3, 1947, to Orville and Delcie (Jones) Stiles, she was one of four children. Linda grew up in St. Maries where she helped her parents with her three siblings, attended school, was best friends with Linda (Jones) Horrocks and married the love of her life, Bob Funke, at the age of 18.
Linda and Bob moved to Dalton Gardens in 1965, where they purchased their home on small acreage and raised their two children, Cindy and Randy. Linda was a supportive, hard-working wife and mother, she had three large gardens, worked with the animals, canned, baked and always had pride in a nicely kept home and yard.
As her husband worked tirelessly in the woods as a logger, she lovingly supported him, and it showed in her daily routine. Linda would get up early, often 1-2 a.m. to prepare Bob’s breakfast, pack his lunch, a thermos of hot coffee, with a kiss she’d send him out the door and off to work, and she worried about his safety as a logger every single day. Linda spent time in her gardens during the day and always had a hot meal on the table for dinner for her family. She enjoyed time outdoors gardening and was always improving the landscape of their yard with treasures (trees, rocks, burnt stumps and burls) she would find and pack out of the woods when spending time with her husband Bob on weekends at his job sites.
Linda also enjoyed time with friends doing ceramics, bowling and volunteering at the election office. Linda took up baking cakes and was an amazing cake decorator, baking and designing the most beautiful wedding and special occasion cakes was something she really enjoyed.
Linda is known by her family and friends for her strength and determination, she was not afraid of hard work and once she set her mind to something, she accomplished the task and did it well, she was true and amazing. She was always supportive of her husband, Bob, her children and her grandchildren. She never missed a horse show, rodeo, dirt bike race, birthday party, sports game or the chance to spend time with her three grandchildren at the lake.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mike) Knowles; her son, Randy (Shelly) Funke; sister, Brenda Wine; brother, Roger (Kay) Stiles; grandchildren: Leland Funke, Nicholas Knowles and Emily Knowles.
A dual service for Linda and Bob will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at St Pius Catholic Church (625 E. Haycraft Ave. Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815). Donations in remembrance of Linda Sue Funke can be made to the local Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
