William 'Bill' Silvers, 72

William “Bill” Frederick Silvers of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away at Kootenai Medical Center on Aug. 28, 2023, at the age of 72.

Bill is survived by his wife, Janet; children Trisha (Jason) Shoemaker and Matt (Kari) Silvers; grandchildren Clara, Bostyn, Clark, Pepper, Avery, Harrison and Pace; and sisters Betty Koehler and Marcia Underwood.

Bill was born Oct. 24, 1950, in Yakima, Wash., to Edward “Marsh” and Pauline Silvers. The family tended to a small fruit orchard in Parker Heights during Bill’s youth. He graduated from Wapato High School in 1969 and later from Washington State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Bill married the love of his life, Janet Hillbery, in 1972, with whom he recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Bill served in law enforcement for 26 years: Two years with Yakima County Jail, 13 years with Toppenish Police Department finishing with the rank of Lieutenant and 11 years serving as Chief of Police for the City of Union Gap. Thereafter, Bill worked at the Department of Treasury until his retirement in 2014. In 2015, they moved to Post Falls to be closer to their children and grandchildren, who meant so much to him.

Bill is remembered for his sense of humor, storytelling, and fierce loyalty to close family and friends. He lived his life his way and never stepped back from a challenge. Friends and family knew that when Bill chose to do something, he did it.

Bill enjoyed traveling, including many trips with Janet to Cabo for deep-sea fishing. He had a passion for classic cars, working in the yard, projects in the garage, casinos and fireworks on the Fourth of July. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a deep fondness for the dogs that he rescued.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. A celebration of life is planned for Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church (317 W. Second St.) in Cheney, Wash. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life.
