COEUR d’ALENE — Two men are being held on $100,000 bail after they allegedly conspired to forge a doctor’s signature.

A grand jury returned indictments Wednesday, Aug. 30 for 42-year-old Jesse R. Jackson, of Coeur d'Alene and 37-year-old Kevin C. Jackson, of Post Falls, charging them both with preparing false evidence and conspiracy to prepare false evidence and/or forgery. Jesse Jackson also faces a charge of forgery.

The charges stem from Aug. 1, when Kevin Jackson called Jesse Jackson from the Kootenai County jail, where he had been incarcerated since December 2022 for a separate matter.

After the call, Jesse Jackson went to the Post Falls Library “for the purpose of preparing false evidence,” according to court documents. He then allegedly practiced the signature he intended to forge, that of a Post Falls family medicine doctor.

Police said Jesse Jackson showed the forged signature to Kevin Jackson the following day.

The men conspired to forge a note from the Post Falls doctor “with intent to defraud another,” prosecutors said.

Following the indictment, a judge issued $100,000 warrants for each man. Police took Jesse Jackson into custody Thursday. Both remain in jail.

The men have previous criminal convictions in Kootenai County.

Kevin Jackson pleaded guilty in July to malicious injury to property with damages in excess of $1,000. In 2021, Jesse Jackson pleaded guilty to exhibition or use of a deadly weapon and assault by way of threatening violence.

In Idaho, preparing false evidence is generally punishable by up to five years in prison, while forgery carries a minimum sentence of one year in prison and a maximum of 14 years.
