Sandpoint 3, Bonners Ferry 0

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint made easy work of Bonners Ferry, winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-12) in Friday’s non-conference matchup at Les Rogers Court.

“We were able to get some of our younger players some experience which was fun to watch,” head coach Piper Wahlin said. “We played well; it was a good win.”

Sandpoint Sophomore Belen Gonzales had a great match racking up three kills, three blocks and committed zero hitting errors. Junior Calie Bailey stepped in as the main setter and accumulated 13 assists.

Sandpoint (5-4, 1-1) will face off against Moscow at home on Tuesday.

Clark Fork 3, Priest River 2

CLARK FORK — The Wampus Cats came away with Bonner County bragging rights after defeating Priest River in a five-set thriller on Friday night at Clark Fork High School. Clark Fork defeated Priest River, 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 15-25, 25-11, 15-7).

“Priest River came to play,” Clark Fork head coach Lyndise Kiebert-Carey said. “They have several smart hitters working off a talented setter. Our girls played hard for each other tonight and proved that defense wins games. I’m really proud and excited to see us turn things around after our loss to Bonners Ferry.”

For the Wampus Cats, Aime Matteson had a team-high eight kills with no attack errors. Kiebert-Carey said she picked great shots and made aggressive choices in key moments. Lilly Reuter and Piper Scarlett posted perfect serving nights; Reuter had a 14-point run in the fourth set which Kiebert-Carey said the team really needed in that moment. Reuter had seven aces; Scarlett had five. Eloise Shelton added six kills and four aces of her own.

On defense, Amari Printz-Hay had a massive night, posting 22 digs and four blocks, proving she is quite the all-around player. Aurora Lane had 14 assists and added 13 digs.

On offense for Priest River, Desi Humphrey had a game-high nine kills. Aleigha Jenson contributed four aces. Jayda Storro had a phenomenal game with 28 assists. On defense, Helena White had four figs and Allyson Barton had four total blocks.

“It’s our first game after four weeks of practice, so we really needed this game to tell us where we are and what we need to work on,” Priest River head coach Katlyn Ward said. “There were moments where we played like I’ve never seen us play before and moments where I didn’t know the team that was on the court. We have a very young team and lots of growth will be happening. I’m very excited for this season,”

Clark Fork (3-1) will face Wallace at home on Tuesday while Priest River (0-1) will look forward to facing their rival, Newport at home on Thursday.
