Sept. 3, 1973 – TELEPHONE MEN HONORED

Two local General Telephone Co. employees were honored at a dinner recently for their long service to GTE. Garland Newton, 1102 Birch, an installation and repairman, received his 25-year service award; lineman Bob Bottcher, Mountain View, was awarded for 15 years of service. Both were accompanied by their wives. Lucille Bottcher, also a GTE employee, is a service advisor.

DELAY IN HOT LUNCH PROGRAM

Due to problems in procuring basic supplies, hot lunch programs in Bonner County schools will not begin until after Sept. 17. All youngsters attending school will be required to bring lunches until the district can obtain the necessary hot lunch supplies.

TIMBLIN GRAD OF SUB SCHOOL

Navy Fire Control Tech. 3rd Class Rex Timblin, husband of the former Margee Hamilton, graduated from Naval Submarine School and will begin six months practical training aboard a submarine.

SENIORS TO VISIT BANFF

Sandpoint Senior Citizens will take a bus trip to Banff, Alberta, Canada, leaving at 7 a.m. Sept. 13, from the Senior Citizens Center, 302 Pine St. [NW corner 3rd & Pine] returning the next evening. Cost per person is $33, including transportation, motel, park fees and three meals. Free coffee and donuts will be served at the center at 6:30 before departure.

Sept. 3, 1948 – PENNEY’S PIED PIPER!

Ray Bergeron, manager of the J.C. Penney company store [First and Cedar] led a “flock” of 500 children to the Panida Friday in a pre-school theater party sponsored by the store. The children received free tickets to the affair and saw a special showing of “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.” The show was filled to capacity and all had a swell time.

DUNSTAN PUT ON WATER SHOW

L.A. (Dusty) Dunstan staged a water show in front of Hurschell’s marine dining room at Hope Saturday, assisted by Charlotte Pennington, who did ski riding with him, and Darlene Shaffer, who did acrobatic stunts on his back as he aquaplaned. Mrs. Dunstan and her mother, Mrs. Stoneback, piloted the launch.

KINDERGARTEN TO ENROLL

Mrs. Elsie Bush, kindergarten teacher, announced kindergarten class enrollment is Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. in the Farmin school basement. The morning class will be from 8:50 to 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon class will take up at 12:50 and continue until 3:30.
