The annual Mineral County Museum and Historical Society’s Cedar Creek Historic Mining District Tour attracted 93 people who carpooled and filled 2 Superior School busses for a day of history, gold panning, a potluck and music. This is a free event in August or September each year. (Monte Turner/Mineral Independent)
At China Culch in Cedar Creek, visitors were greeted by Ah Hoy (Shirley Iwata) with a living history presentation of the role that the Chinese played in the gold rush. A tour of the Chinese ovens that remain in the hillside was given by Ah Hoy as she explained the brutal living conditions during winter months. Library caps off youth summer program with SpectrUM
Summer may be winding down, but there was still plenty of excitement on the lawn of the Mineral County Library in Superior as kids gathered for one more afternoon of learning, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
Cedar Creek history tour and potluck coming up
The 2026 Annual Historical Tour and Potluck will take place Saturday, Sept.12, giving longtime residents another opportunity to revisit some favorite pieces of Mineral County history while newcomers get a chance to discover the stories, places and people that helped shape the community they now call home.
