At first it looked like the home-standing Troy Lady Trojans were going to hold serve.

Then Noxon got cranked up and that was, as it is often said, “all she wrote”.

Noxon, fresh off an impressive performance in the season opening Mission Invitational tournament in St. Ignatius last weekend, fell behind early in the opening set, which was won by the Lady Trojans 25-20.

However, coach Dana Grupenhoff’s team found a higher gear between sets and roared back to overwhelm Troy 25-3 to win the second set and even the match this past Thursday at one set each.

From there it was pretty much all Lady Devils, as the Noxon squad dominated play on both sides of the net, including double figure kills from two players. Noxon took the third set 25-15 to take a 2-1 match lead, then put the contest away in convincing fashion by winning the fourth set 25-10 to close out a 3-1 match victory.

Seanna Richter had a solid all around game for Noxon, racking up 10 kills to go with five assists, three service aces, two blocks and a pair of digs. She was joined in double figure kills by teammate Maygan Swanson who also had 10 kills, along with four blocks and six digs on the night.

Alexis Risch led all players with 11 service aces and had four kills and five digs for the Lady Devlis.

Meanwhile, Mia Vogel put together a good night’s work with five aces, four kills, a team-high 10 assists and seven digs. In what was an all-around team effort, Emma Swanson had two aces, five assists and two digs for Noxon, which improved to 1-0 on the season. Games at the Mission tourney are generally not counted in the official standings.

Next on the schedule for Noxon is a return match with Troy Tuesday (Sept 5), this time in Noxon. The Lady Devils then travel to Charlo this Thursday for a rematch with Charlo, whom they knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten last season, stunning the Lady Vikings on their home court.

The Lady Devils return home this Saturday (Sept 9) when they take on St. Regis in an early season conference clash.
