I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 8, 2023 1:00 AM
BLAINE, Wash. — Sandpoint’s Jeff Gove, representing The Idaho Club, won the 2023 PNW PGA Senior Professional Championship for the second straight year Thursday.
The championship was held at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club. The golf course, designed by Arnold Palmer, is 6,588 yards and its par is 72. Gove was the only golfer to finish under par after two rounds; he shot a 69 in the first round and a 73 in the second for a total of 142, two under par.
“It was great to play with the Northwest Club pros and test my game in competition,” Gove said. “Definitely an honor to win any tournament, and I am proud to put my name on this trophy two years in a row.”
Gove took home a prize of $1,500 for his efforts. The total purse was $10,000 for the championship. Finishing two strokes behind Gove were Jeff Coston and Mitch Lowe, who finished with 144s and both took home $1,100 each.
Gove has officially qualified for the 2023 Senior PGA Professional Championship, scheduled for Oct. 26-29 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
